KSC’s press center hosted a JAXA briefing this afternoon with Yoshiyuki Hasegawa, Japanese Experiment Module program manager. The conference room was filled with Japanese reporters. It became immediately obvious how excited the Japanese people are about Kibo, Japan’s Experiment Module to be installed aboard ISS. Every news paper, website, and news station in Japan has been covering Kibo’s launch. As Mr. Hasegawa put it, “everyone knows about Kibo, from small children to my mother.” Kibo has been a work in progress since 1985 with the first prototype developed in 1990. This will be the first time the Japan has had their own human space flight facility, with their own astronauts, and their own control center. Kibo will be the largest experiment module aboard ISS, and will facilitate both Japanese and American experiments. For more information visit http://kibo.jaxa.jp/en/about/
