At approximately 8:30PM est on Friday May 30th the Rotating Service Structure protecting the shuttle on the launch pad was rolled back. You couldn’t have asked for a more majestic evening. Mid 70’s, slight breeze, not a cloud in the sky, and a gorgeous sunset behind Discovery on the launch pad. It was an event I have wanted to witness since I was a child, and it was more than I could have ever imagined it would be. I cannot being to detail the awe of millions of pounds of steel silently sliding away to reveal Discovery in all of her beauty. I was simply speechless as I witnessed this amazing engineering feat unfold. I can only say that it was a moment of reverence for me. Please enjoy the photos and video provided below.
