Good episode about the Herschels, but please check the dates. I think I noticed one mention of a Herschel discovery in the 1980s and another to the NGC being produced in the 1780s!

This show is great, but you need to do one on his son John. We owe most of modern photography to John, including the words "negative" and "positive" as they relate to photos. The first photo he took was of the big 40' telescope you mention in the podcast. John was much more of a polymath than his father and only took up astronomy later in life, yet made major contributions. He was also a great friend of Charles Babbage.
